Week 16: Ridin’ the storm out

This video is a real blast from the past.

Great song to spin to! Great song, period. Enjoy!

And here’s a poem that doesn’t have anything to do with spin or REO, but a lot to do with making choices and freedom, or the lack of choices and freedom.

The dignity of movement of an iceberg is due
to only one-eighth of it being above water.

– attributed to Ernest Hemingway

Discussing Hemingway

“Tell me again why you think
she’s pregnant.” Allison snaps her gum
in the back of the classroom.

Michael clarifies
white elephants and letting the air in.
“He wants her to get rid of the kid.”

The girl shakes her head.
“Why didn’t he just say so?”

“Do you believe this guy when he tells the girl
everything will be okay?”

“No.”

“Why not?”

Heads turn toward Allison.

“Because it won’t. This guy’s not sticking around.”

“How do you know?”

“I just know, okay?”

“Right, that’s what Hemingway
does with a few words.
You’re supposed to feel it here.”
The teacher taps her stomach.

Allison snaps her gum.
“Yeah? Hemingway don’t know me.
I’d kick that Man’s ass
across them tracks.”
