On Hopper’s “Sun in an Empty Room”

Edward Hopper's painting

A few years ago, I visited the Hopper exhibit at the Boston Museum of Art. This painting was the last one in the show. Throughout the show, I felt so much distance and loneliness in his work. This painting was the last one and sits in a space all by itself. I sat in front of it for a good 10 minutes. As empty as it was, it felt the warmest and most positive – as if Hopper had found his favorite place in the world.
