A few hours before Mallory and Seth were married, she still didn’t have “something blue.” We had discussed these little traditions days and weeks before, but she didn’t seem to consider them very important. Anyway, because it was the 4th of July and we were staying in a hotel in Connecticut, Bill and I ran to a Wal-Mart to find her something silly and blue. It wasn’t as easy as we thought.
Finally, in the cheesy jewelry section, we agreed on a packet of toe rings — the kind Mallory and Emily liked wearing in the summer when they were much younger. Anyway, we bought several packs of blue gemmed toe rings and handed them out to Mallory and her bridesmaids. I wore one too. It’s still in my little bowl of earrings, and it stirs to the top every now and then when I’m digging for a pair of matching earrings.
I took this photo in the room where the girls got ready before the wedding at Eolia Mansion. Everything about that day went as quickly as they warn you it will. But it was a beautiful day, and I’m sure the toe rings will be forgotten before most of the other details. So I’m glad it’s sitting here, on this page with this photo.
