Weekly photo challenge: Summer

Fishing at the lake in Paullina, Iowa.

For some reason, the Marcus town pool never opened up until mid-June, so we spent the early days of summer fishing for bullheads at the lake in Paullina, which was north of our farm. I never liked eating bullheads, but they were fun to catch, at least when I was this young in the photo above. The lake also had a swimming area with a slide and a diving platform. It’s been a long time since I’ve been there. I wonder if kids still swim in the lake. Maybe someone could let me know!

  1. Went there a lot. During oats harvesting at the end of the day, I’d drive there and swim out to diving platform (gone now). Got the dust washed off and laying on the high board watching the sunset was marvelous, as was the swim back to the shore in the dark. Would love to have bullheads fried in the pan again.
